Attendee Quick Guide

Here’s everything you’ll need as a PhreakNIC attendee.

Discord

Join the PhreakNIC Discord to chat with other attendees, get notified live about upcoming talks, and most importantly, find out where everyone is going for dinner.

Talks Schedule

In addition to the live updates in Discord, you can view the live talks schedule on the Web – add it to your phone’s home screen or bookmarks so you’ll always know what’s next.

Or, add the iCalendar to your calendar app of choice, and you’ll never miss a talk of interest.

Bonus Activities

There’s quite a bit to be done at PhreakNIC when you’re not at a talk.

Chillout Room

If you want to duck out of talks for a while, just head to the chillout room. Kick back and relax, throw some videos on the projector, and get to know your fellow attendees.

Digital Game tables

Try an adrenaline-pumping CTF shooter, or revisit some classics on real retro consoles, as well as some emulation stations if a wider variety is what you seek.

Lego Corner

Have you ever just wanted to play with Lego bricks but didn’t have enough to build what you wanted? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Make sure you tweet out the pictures of your creations and tag @PhreakNIC!

LockSport Nook

Wikipedia: “Lock picking has been around for as long as locks have, and recreational lock picking has been as well. King Louis XVI of France (1754-1793) was a keen designer, picker and manipulator of locks, and physicist Richard Feynman picked locks for fun in the 1940s while employed on the Manhattan Project. Notes from the MIT Roof and Tunnel Hacking community were made widely available in 1991 as The MIT Guide to Lock Picking.”

Elliot of Mr. Robot fame states: “The lock pick. Every hacker’s favorite sport. The perfect system to crack, mostly because unlike virtual systems, when you break it, you can feel it. You can see it. You can hear it.”

Try it for yourself! It is both easier and harder than it looks….

Board Games

Settlers of Catan, Dominion etc.  We don’t just love technology, after the talks we will keep the tradition of board gaming alive in the atrium!

Sticker Trade

We all collect numerous stickers at the conventions, conferences, and con-jobs we participate in. Bring em to PhreakNIC – give some away, and maybe you’ll get something cool in return.

Food with friends

Last but not least, PhreakNIC has lunch and dinner breaks long enough for you to get to know new friends or catch up with old ones. Hands down the people that you converse with are the best thing thing about PhreakNIC; be bold and join a group that is going to go eat! (Hint: Make sure you scroll to the top of this page and join the Discord!)
